Popis The goal of the article is to specify typology of rural area with focus on retail and commercial services. Typology is based on research made by South Moravian region in 2012 and on data obtained from the municipalities of the South Moravian Region as a part of a broader research of the current factors influencing selected service functions in rural areas with an emphasis on retail. Municipalities are further divided by the already existing typologies of rural areas taking into account the demographic and socioeconomic factors. Sense of typology is to help with interpreting of the retail and services analysis in South Moravian region. Typology will be also applied for the next research – interviews with selected retail and services providers in individual types of rural areas.
