Citace
Popis The primary objective of the workshop was to foster an interdisciplinary dialogue concerning marginalized and peripheral elements within Byzantine writings and visual arts, both in a literal and metaphorical sense. Our focus encompassed various dimensions: firstly, we explored the art and literature originating from the fringes of the Byzantine empire. Secondly, we delved into the often-overlooked aspects of Byzantine artistic and literary creations, such as marginalia and scholia in manuscripts, as well as the background and peripheral components of paintings and mosaics. Thirdly, we aimed to investigate metaphorical marginalia, encompassing minor characters, metanarrative commentary, and narrative and literary devices that tend to be disregarded or even entirely unnoticed by recipients, despite their significant impact on the overall composition of the literary work. In the realm of visual culture, this included an examination of seemingly secondary figures in compositions, such as the "testimonies" or companions of the main character, as well as topographical indications.
