Popis Daily mobility is an issue which can be essentially connected to personal choices, whether they are a matter of reason, habit, or even an accident. Which modes of transportation do we tend to choose and why? The motives which lead to these daily decisions will be introduced in the presentation. How does one’s life change after a significant lifestyle progress? Do students continue to live their car-free lives after they leave universities and enter their days of employment? Or do they face their adult life with the transportation mode which is bound to a certain social status? These and other answers will be presented. The presentation also deals with the representation of the automobile. How do the participants perceive the car? Does the automobile carry a significant meaning of luxury, social status, freedom, or other emotions? And how does this representation influence their modal choice? The aim of the presentation is to reveal how the students and young adults perceive the automobile and what their motivations for modal choice are. Another aim is to show if and how these motivations change when the students become young adults. The results were obtained from a focus group of recent and former students revealing their points of view, behavior, and other characteristics via in-depth interviews. In the presentation, you will learn if the students located in the city of Brno, the Czech Republic, have different points of view on the matter of automobiles and modal choice than others.
