Popis Given the dramatic changes in Central and Eastern Europe since the Berlin Wall fell in 1989 and the Soviet Union dissolved in 1991, local-area experts under the umbrella of NISPAcee were challenged to examine their national systems of health care as well as proposals to reform them. This article summarizes this research with a focus on outcomes from reforms in areas of health finance, quality and access. While no blueprint is offered, intriguing patterns emerge across the cases plus observations about “next steps” in the unfolding process of health reforms in the region.
