Description For the first time in its history, the Czech Republic had an opportunity to preside over the Council of the European Union. It was a great challenge not only to take over the EU leadership from France, whose active approach to presidency was evaluated very positively, but also to be only the second new EU member state in this position. The presidency had an impact both on the country 's political and economic developments as well as on its citizens. The aim of the submitted paper is to present the results of a questionnaire survey carried out in early December 2008, just before the start of the Czech Presidency, which was focused on respondents aged between 18 and 30 years. The main purpose of the survey was to determine the respondents' knowledge of the basic parameters of the presidency, but also to find out their views on the impacts and benefits, whether personal or social. A synthesis of these findings made it possible not only to formulate interesting conclusions, but also to provide a basis for further research.
