Description The issues linked with accession of countries in transition to the EU structures, can be complicated by several principal factors: central authorities play the key role. The mutual relationship between the central bank and the government is, to a certain degree, a limiting factor for a successful completion of the integration process. These aspects are interrelated by the functional mix of fiscal and monetary policies, i.e. the success of both integration and transformation strategy depends on mutual co-operation between fiscal and monetary economic-political measures - that means on mutual relationship between the government and the central bank. In terms of institutions, this relationship is given by the degree of central bank independence from the government. The main object of the paper is to compare legislative and economic aspects of the position of the Czech national bank.
