Description The aim of this paper is to assess the progression and state of the research potential of the Czech regions. First of all are processed the data from the Czech Statistical Office relating to the research indicators of the region. Subsequently the research infrastructure of the region is reviewed in relation to the funds from the OP R&DI received for their construction and also involvement of the organizations in the FP7 projects. All of these data are then combined into a single indicator that allows comparison of the research potential of all regions. As expected, Prague reached the best results in all indicators. From other regions the South Moravian Region have the best research potential and the worst results were achieved in all indicators the Region of Karlovy Vary.
