Description The paper is concerned with involuntary childlessness resulting from physical infertility and its medicalization through the use of reproductive technologies. The research is based on the sociological perspective of constructivism and exploits analytical material consisting of 36 in-depth interviews (with 5 men and 31 women) who share experience with infertility treatment. It focuses on different ways of decision-making of the couple about infertility treatment and future parenthood. It refers to geneticization of parental ties and also to means of manipulation of various types of parental relations in order to fulfill society based image about parenthood. It also draws attention to adoption, which in certain context may become a preferred choice of infertile couples.
