Description At the first stage it was necessary to compile a basic dataset in a structure needed for a statistical analysis. The aim of the analysis described in the paper is to ascertain, both theoretically and empirically, how the Czech market of mergers and acquisitions behaved in relation to the development of the global market. We measured the response of the Czech market to the development of the economic environment, which affects decisions of companies concerning transformations. The analysed period is the past 10 years, from 2001 to 2010, during which two financial crises occurred. The results of the analysis proved a positive correlation between the development of the economic environment and activities in the field of mergers and also changes in the development of ownership structure of transformed companies. At the next stage, the research methodology will focus on the evaluation of the economic efficiency of the implemented mergers.
