Description The theory of public goods is usually illustrated within the example of charity or charitable giving. The organizer of the charitable collection should be aware of massive free riding which is predicted by the theory. It can be fruitful for fundraisers (and not only for them) to use alternative mechanism based on the voluntary contributions, where the free riding is diminished or avoided. Our paper introduces lottery as one of such alternative mechanisms. We evaluate effectiveness of probably best known type of lottery - fixed prize lottery with probability of winning depending on the amount contributed.
