Description Over the last twenty years the Czech retail business has been going through an essential transformation. Hypermarkets, supermarkets, discount stores, shopping malls and others are typical features of the current Czech retail net. A new way of retail shopping and its net structure are a real novelty, an innovation. A spatial localization of various shopping places has a diffusion character; time-related phases of the process take place very fast if no significant barriers to innovation are present. The aim of the article is to analyze and draw general conclusions, based upon a survey of selected retail chain stores, about the Czech retail business, which has in time and space also the character of a diffusion process.
