Description From the institutional economy point of view, the quality of institution in the country is very important factor, which underlies economic level. The volume and quality of regulation represent one of the institutional quality determinants. The main goal of this paper is to analyze the regulation and deregulation development in the Czech Republic in the period 1990 to 2007, capture the main development trends in this area and evolution of the volume of regulation as well as its quality. Regulating volume and quality are important determinants of competitiveness. Well defined and stable regulatory frame and limited government role is the background of sustainable economic growth in the terms of internal and external balance.
