Description The present state of a demographic situation in the Czech Republic is manifested by a total aging of the population. High proportion of seniors may signify a certain load for a public health and revenue system and may also influence labour market changes. Regarding these facts its necessary to develop a further training of older generation to maintain, eventually to develop its potential. At the same time, the demand for social services will grow, respectively not only a field social services demand but also an inpatient social services demand. All of it may lead to the increased government expenditures. The aim of the paper is to refer to spheres of a social policy which are the most affected by an aging phenomenon. This paper focuses on a group of people at the age of 55 67 years. These are economic active persons at a pre-retiring age. Its the group of people which is endangered by unemployment in a labour market. At the same time, this group of people is more often affected by long-term diseases and its also the most numerous group drawing disability pensions. Are seniors a contribution into the labour market or are they just a cost item of the system caused by a demographic evolution?
