Description The focus of the thesis is the field of spatial effectiveness of tourism support from public finance sources. It is divided into eight chapters, the first two of which are purely theoretical. Chapter One deals with the economic importance of tourism and Chapter Two examines the theoretical-methodological background of public tourism support. All the remaining chapters analyse the situation in the Czech Republic. It describes the important role that tourism plays in the Czech economy and also characterises the policy that is carried out in this field. Great attention is also paid to the connection between public support of tourism and the structural policy of the EU. The core of the thesis is concentrated into Chapters Six, Seven and Eight. The research itself focuses on the analysis and assessment of the degree to which the Priority No. 4 – Development of Tourism from the Joint Regional Operational Programme - is being realised. In order to be able to decide on the spatial effectiveness of tourism support as well as its other social-economic implications, it is necessary to evaluate the tourist attractiveness and the economic power of the particular area. To do that, the author used both secondary sources of research that had already been done, and primary sources of research carried out by himself. Besides reporting on the financial aspects of tourism support, the thesis also shows how the subsidies are targeted matter-of-factly. Doing this, the author identifies the most important problems occurring in tourism support and offers some recommendations that could help to improve system of support form the EU structural funds.
