Description Utilization of information and communication technologies (ICT) in public administration – e-government / e-governance represents an important component of current reforms and modernizations of public administration. E-government management, which includes also regulatory instruments, shall not forget that realization of relevant legal provisions and related projects may require (and often requires) certain capacities of stakeholders (citizens, businesses and other subjects) and also of public administration itself (of its administrative as well as political layer). This second aspect is very important in the Czech administrative context due to the size structure of municipalities. Paper introduces the scope of e-government terminology and then it discusses provisions of selected Czech legislation which deals with electronization of municipal public administration (e.g. freedom of information legislation, duties required by current act on information systems of public administration) in relation to readiness of Czech municipalities to realize the duties and readiness of coordinating central authority (Ministry of Interior) to manage the electronization of municipal administration more systematically.
