Description In the condition of modernity the ritual and everyday practices of kashrut as well as the meanings ascribed to them are subject to continuous reinterpretation. The paper deals with the particular forms of practicing kashrut by both secular and religious Jews in Hungary and the Czech Republic as it is traceable since the 1980s. Selected usages of the rules kashrut are interpreted as symbolic practices that play crucial role in the construction of Jewish identities.
