Description The aim of the study was to determine the prevalence of Staphylococcus aureus (STAU) strains producing Panton-Valentine leukocidin (PVL) toxin among STAU isolates from wounds of patients at the Microbiology Department of St. Anne's Hospital and the Faculty of Medicine of MUNI in the years 2021-2022. A total of 322 clinical isolates of STAU were collected and subsequently examined by PCR detection of lukS-PV and lukF-PV genes. Antibiotic susceptibility, patient age and wound location were also monitored. Seventeen PVL toxin producers were identified, thus the prevalence was 5.3% and the median age was 48 years. This result is comparable with similar studies from abroad. Among the strains, we only detected inducible MLSB resistance in one sample. However, there were few resistant isolates among the samples in the cohort (4% MRSA, 24% MLSB). Unfortunately, the majority of isolates with PVL-positive STAU did not have a wound location indicated.
