Citation
Description The chapter focuses on the sustainable development of rural tourism. Although, given the potential of the rural landscape, tourism is becoming a suitable opportunity for the economic diversification of these areas, it must be borne in mind that its development should take place in accordance with the aesthetic conditions of the landscape and the needs of the local community. The formation of sustainable rural tourism should therefore not only be influenced by external forces, but the involvement of local people and service providers in particular should be crucial for sustainability. In the context of the concept of sustainability, the chapter further focuses on the possibilities of alternative development of tourism in rural areas and identifies alternative forms of tourism, which are specifically presented in case studies. Despite all efforts to achieve sustainable development, it is clear that tourism puts some pressure on the economic, environmental and social and cultural elements and processes in the environment in which it takes place. For this reason, the chapter also deals with the impact of tourism on rural recreational resources and defines destination management tools that are usable given the specifics of these destinations and the diversity of problems they face.
