Citation
Description The edited monograph brings analyses of value development in Czechia and Slovakia in the period of 1991-2017. The main goal of the book is to map to what extent the modernization of both societies after 1990 as well as the separation of both countries in 1993 had an impact on value development. Analyses of value trends is made possible thanks to international sociological survey European Values Study in which both Czechia and Slovakia have been participating since 1991.Standadized questionnaire enables international comparisons. The contents of the book consists, apart from introductory, methodological and concluding chapters, of twelve chapters that are divided into four sections: I The Family, Children and Gender Roles; II. Subjective well-being and Social Capital; III. Religion and Social Solidarity; IV Politics, National Identity and Migration. The central hypothesis of the book is that in accordance with modernization theory we should find that value structures and preferences that are deemed to be different in Czechia and Slovakia in 1991 because of different socio-economic and cultural background will gradualy become asimilar by 2017 due to homogenizational effect of moddernization.
