Description This chapter analyzes the determinants of subjective wellbeing (SWB) and asks whether the subjective wellbeing, or life satisfaction, is related to the social capital. The authors present various theoretical perspectives on subjective wellbeing and previous empirical findings. In addition to capturing changes in time and differences in life satisfaction of both populations, they also study the context and determinants of subjective and whether and to what extent people’s life satisfaction is influenced by their social capital measured by civic engagement and trust in institutions and other people.
