Description In the present text, we mapped the conditions and processes affecting the governance (management, coordination and control) of public employment services (PES) and the implementation of an active labour market policy (ALMP) in individual regions of the Czech Republic based on expert interviews with the directors of regional branches of the Labor Office of the Czech Republic or their deputies. We assumed that conditions and processes related to the governance of public employment services in the Czech Republic affect the formation and implementation of ALMP provisions at the regional and local level, and consequently their effectiveness and efficiency. The resulting findings show that even though the system of PES in the Czech Republic is currently (2018) stable and almost all respondents agreed that it works well, it has a number of shortcomings. Specifically, the resulting findings revealed primarily the current form of the PES system in the Czech Republic in terms of the role of actors and the rules and ways of its management, coordination and control. At the same time, tehre were identified strengths and weaknesses affecting the PES functionality in the area of available resources, working conditions and the degree and quality of networks of actors involved in implementation of ALMP at regional and local level.
