Description Richard Dawkins coined the term meme firstly in the 1976. Meme referred to the unit od cultural evolution in the similar way that gene refers to the unit of biological evolution. In subsequent decades the concept of memetics became a controversial theory of culture evolution. While the proponents often understood memetics as new paradigm unified the social sciences, many od scientists questioned the benefits of memetics. The aim of the presentation is to develop one of several objections that memetics is not able to generate falsifiable hypotheses and therefore it is tautology and pseudoscience. In discussion part, I will introduce some possible explanations why memetics had such a success among academics.
