Description In our paper we evaluate the efficiency of more than 400 Czech municipalities in the area of municipal solid waste management during the period 2010-2012. We use Data Envelopment Analysis with one input represented by expenditures on solid waste management and multiple outputs, namely population, number of dwellings, serviced area and amount of separated waste. We use several DEA models for calculating efficiency score and compare their results. In the second stage of the analysis we regress computed DEA scores on a set of municipal operational characteristics in order to identify the main determinants of the efficiency. Variables with significant positive effect on the DEA scores are identified and their influence on waste management efficiency is discussed with the relevant literature.
