Habilitation Public Lecture – Vilém Pařil

The public lecture within the habilitation procedure given in accordance with Masaryk University Directive No. 7/2017 Habilitation Procedures and Professor Appointment Procedures by applicant Ing. Vilém Pařil, Ph.D.

The topic of the public lecture delivered in English is: "Mobility behaviour and policy".

Annotation:
Public lecture focuses on assessing mobility behaviour regarding modal split, price and the level of services reflected by frequency and, finally, the role of public policy incentives represented by discussion of free fare system or huge discounts for specific target groups of potential travellers or commuters. The lecture presents three railway markets with significantly different entry policies using data on prices and frequencies and a survey conducted to obtain revealed preferences. The results show potential mobility behaviour changes in differently competitive transport markets reflecting marginal changes. Consequently, those results are confronted with substantial public incentives represented by free fares on the Slovak railway and public transport discounts in Czechia, meaning much more significant price changes for end users.
