🛂 Visa & Residence Permits (non-EU only)

If you’re a non-EU citizen, getting your Czech visa is your #1 priority right now. The process can take a while, so start immediately — seriously.

✉️ What you’ll get from us

To apply for your visa, you’ll need two official documents from us (both in Czech):
Confirmation of Acceptance to Studies
Confirmation of Accommodation

These are hard copies — embassies won’t accept scans or PDFs.
We’ll send them to you by regular mail by default. If you’re in a hurry, you can arrange an express courier (you’ll need to cover the cost).

🧭 Where to start

The visa process can be confusing, but this website is your new best friend:
👉 Official Czech Government Visa Portal

📌 Keep us in the loop

Once you:

  • book your visa appointment
  • get your application/appointment number

Let us know! It helps us keep track and support you better.

❓ Might They Ask About Your Studies?

During your visa interview, you may be asked about your programme of study — what you’ll be doing in Brno, which courses you’ll take, and how the degree is structured.

👉 No stress — you don’t have to explain everything off the top of your head! Use the links below to review your study plan before your appointment:
📘 Study plans for Bachelor’s programmes
📗 Study plans for Master’s programmes

Knowing the basics will help you feel more confident — and it shows the visa officer you're well prepared.

🚨 Pro Tips

  • Start now. Like, now.
  • Make sure your documents are valid and translated (officially) if needed.
  • Check your local Czech embassy’s appointment availability ASAP.
  • Check what your Czech embassy needs (it may vary!)
  • If you qualify for the Visa Student Mode, we will let you know.

💸 Tuition & Payments

🕒 Payment Deadlines

Depending on when you start, the tuition fee must be paid in full by:

📅 June 30 — for September intake
📅 December 31 — for February intake

⚠️ No extensions are possible, so plan ahead and don’t leave it to the last minute.

💳 How to Pay

You’ll receive an email with a link to the MUNI Shopping Center, where you’ll find your individual payment details and options.
💡 Everyone must use the Shopping Center link — regardless of the payment method you choose.

You can pay:
💳 By card (online)
🏦 By bank transfer
🌍 Using Convera
💵 In cash at the ECON MUNI cashier’s office

👉 Step-by-step payment guide

  • Use the exact bank details and variable symbol/reference provided in your Shopping Center order. It helps us match your payment correctly in the system.
  • Double-check everything before confirming the transfer.

💰 Important:

  • For your first and second semesters, the full annual tuition fee must be paid by the deadline — no installments allowed.
  • From the third semester onward, tuition is paid per semester.

💸 Refund Policy

What if something doesn’t go as planned?

✅ You’ll get a full refund if your visa or residence permit is denied
🔄
In other cases, refund requests are reviewed case by case. If approved, a CZK 6,500 admin fee is deducted

TL;DR: Refunds usually happen, just not always 100%.

⚠️ Don’t Forget

  • Payment = your place is confirmed
  • No extensions = fixed deadline
  • Watch your email inbox for payment instructions!

🛏️ Accommodation at MUNI Dorms

🗓️ When Can I Reserve a Bed?

Dormitory bed reservations for first year students in English-taught programmes (September 2025 intake) open on:

📅 July 14 at 10:00 a.m. (CET)
🛈 This is the reservation date for the September 2025 intake.
The date changes every semester — if a newer date isn't listed here yet, it just means we don't have it confirmed. No need to email us — we’ll update this page as soon as it’s available.

Due to high demand, it's super important to log in and book right at that time — or as soon as you can after.
👉 Late reservations = fewer options or no beds left.

📚 What You’ll Need

Follow these documents step by step — they’ll make the process smooth:

🛏️ How to make a reservation (PDF)
💳 How to pay for your accommodation (PDF)
💰 How much will it cost? (PDF – 2025/26 price list)
🏘️ See photos and dorm info

💰 Reservation Deposit – Important!

To confirm your reservation, you must pay a reservation deposit within 5 days of booking.

  • The deposit = CZK 2,00030× the daily dorm fee (Check the price list above for your dorm's daily rate)
  • Payment is made via the SUPO system
  • Activate your SUPO account immediately after booking
  • Your reservation will be cancelled if you don’t pay the deposit on time

😬 What If I Don’t Get a Spot?

Tried to reserve a bed and the dorms were already full?
📧 Don’t panic — email Mrs. Pavlicová at pavlicova@skm.muni.cz as soon as possible.
👉 Use your MUNI email if you can, or include your UČO (student ID number).

We’ll do our best to help you find a solution — but the earlier we know, the more options we have to work with. So let us know right away!

🛏️ FAQs – Room Reservations

Can I book earlier than July 14?
Sorry, no early reservations are possible. The system opens at the same time for everyone, and we can’t make individual exceptions. Set a reminder and be ready to log in when it opens!

Can I reserve a single room?
Single rooms are limited, and they’re assigned on a first come, first served basis through the reservation system. You can indicate your preference during the booking process — and if one is available when you log in, you'll be able to reserve it.
🕘 Be ready when the system opens — acting fast gives you the best chance of getting the room you want.

📄 Verification of Previous Education

🔍 What is it?

It’s a formal check to confirm that your high school diploma (or equivalent) is valid in the Czech Republic.
It’s not the same as admission — it’s a separate process required by the government.

📌 What do I need to do?

We’ve put everything you need to know right here:
👉 Verification of Previous Education – ECON MUNI

❓“I already uploaded my diploma when I applied — do I really need to send it again?”

Yes — and we get why that’s confusing! Even if you uploaded your diploma or transcript in the e-application, we ask you to submit it again for the verification process. Why?
➡️ Because this step is handled separately from your application, and we need to collect the correct documents in one place to process everything efficiently and on time.

⏰ When should I do it?

As soon as possible. The Ministry of the Interior asks us to confirm whether this step was completed — especially important for visa applicants. Plus, we can’t enroll you unless your diploma has been verified and recognized.

🧭 Orientation Week & Arrival

Orientation Week is your official welcome — and the best way to settle in, meet people, and get to know Brno before classes start.

📅 When is Orientation Week?

September 7–13, 2025
The semester starts the following week: September 15

You’ll receive all the details, including the link to register for Orientation Week, directly from us by email.

🎒 What to Expect?

You’ll get to:

  • Meet your future classmates from around the world 🌍
  • Explore campus and learn how everything works
  • Get practical info about studies, accommodation, health insurance, and more
  • Join fun social events and city tours 🏙️

✈️ When Should I Arrive?

We strongly recommend arriving in Brno between September 5–7.
This gives you time to:

  • Get over the travel stress
  • Move into your accommodation
  • Settle in before Orientation Week starts

🗓️ You can arrive earlier — even from September 1 — but keep in mind:
📋 We can’t enroll you officially until Orientation Week starts
❌ That means no student status yet → no student Wi-Fi, no student discounts (e.g. public transport)
✅ You can still use guest Wi-Fi at the dorms while waiting
If you do arrive earlier, just be aware that things may feel a little slower until enrollment kicks in.

❗ Please don’t ask to be enrolled before Orientation Week. We know you’re excited to start, but the team is focused on preparing your arrival and can’t process individual early enrollments. Thanks for understanding!

🎓 Enrolment & Course Registration

You’ll be officially enrolled in your degree programme on the first day of Orientation Week, once you arrive in Brno.
🛬 You must be physically present to be enrolled — online or early enrolment is not possible.
📝 Course registration happens after enrolment and we’ll walk you through everything step-by-step during Orientation Week.

👉 Note: Enrolment is not required for visa purposes, so you don’t need to worry about this when applying for your visa.

📂 Student Life & Practical Info

🆔 Student Identity (ISIC) Card

All full-time MUNI students receive the International Student Identity Card (ISIC), which comes with benefits like discounts on public transport, food, and more.
👉 More about student identity cards at MUNI

📸 Speed things up!
To make sure your card is ready on time, upload your photo in INET before you arrive:
👉 Upload your photo here
You can also have the photo taken at the University Computer Centre (check the opening hours first).

💳 When do I pay for it and get it?
You will be able to pay for the ISIC card only during Orientation Week. We will then let you know when it's ready.

🏥 Health Insurance

Before anything else:
Always check the official requirements! You are responsible for knowing and following Czech visa and residence rules, including health insurance.
👉 Ministry of the Interior – Travel Medical Insurance Info

We do our best to keep this info updated, but official sources always come first.

If you’re a non-EU student, you must arrange comprehensive health insurance for foreigners before arriving in the Czech Republic — it’s a visa requirement and essential for your stay.
💡 Do your research: Compare prices, coverage, and how convenient each provider is in terms of doctor networks and services in Brno. Each company has slightly different terms and conditions.
🩺 Authorized providers: AXA, Maxima, PVZP, Uniqua.

If you're from the EU, bring your EHIC card (European Health Insurance Card).

🚍 Getting Around & Public Transport

Brno’s public transport is fast, reliable — and super affordable with a student card!
🎟️ If you’re using a single-use paper ticket, don’t forget to validate it when you get on the tram or bus, even if you bought it in advance.
💳 Want a stress-free option? Get a travel card (aka long-term pass aka šalinkarta) and skip the validations altogether.

✨ Everyday Life in Brno

Czech daily life is pretty straightforward, but there are a few local habits and rules that might catch you off guard if you're new:

🗣️ People can seem reserved at first — don’t worry, that’s normal and not unfriendliness.

🚭 No Smoking in Public Spaces
Smoking (including e-cigarettes and heated tobacco products) is not allowed in:

  • Public transport stops and platforms (even outdoors)
  • Restaurants, cafés, bars, and enclosed public spaces
  • University buildings and student dorms

♻️ Recycling is common! Use the color-coded bins for paper, plastic, glass, and more.

👟 Take your shoes off indoors — even in some student flats. It's a cultural thing!

🍽️ Eating Out

  • Tipping at restaurants = 10% is polite, not mandatory
  • Student cafeterias (Menza) offer very affordable meals.
