The aim of this research project is to analyze the educational, employment, income, spatial and age homogamy and to show the patterns, trends, and causes of concluded homogamous marriages in the course of 20th century, especially after 1989 in Czech society. Because the analysis of homogamy means also the analysis of openness of social structure (low level of homogamy indicates open social structure; high level of homogamy indicates closed social structure), the aim of this research project is also to answer the question what happens with the social structure of Czech society. The study will be comprised of both the quantitative and qualitative research of concluded homogamous marriages. The quantitative data will come from the Czech statistical office (the censuses) as well as from particular social surveys. The qualitative data will come from the qualitative survey of husbands and wives, which concluded homogamous marriages. The aim of quantitative analysis is to map the patterns as well as the trends of homogamous marriages. The aim of qualitative analysis is to map the causes of homogamous marriages. The results will be published in sociological journals and the project will be concluded with the book on marriage market (working title: Marrital homogamy in the Czech Republic: Patterns, Trends, and Causes). It will be also possible to use the research findings in discourse on the marriage behaviour of young generation in recent history of Czech society.
