In this project, description and analyses of value structure development of Czech society in 1991-2008 is
planned to be carried out. Such analyses will enable us to interpret the process of political and economic
change of Czech society during its 20 years of existence (from collapse of communism till membership in EU)
from the perspective of development of value priorities of Czech population. The longitudinal feature of
analyses will be possible because this research is connected to (and coordinated by) European Values Study
program, which already generated survey data on European values for 1991 and 1999. Next wave of EVS
survey will be done in 2008 (support for data collection is a part of this proposal). Having three unique data
sets (1991-1999-2008) will give us opportunity to interpret value change not only from Czech perspective but
also within the European context. An important feature of the project is comparison of Czech and Slovak value
structures - whether they were converting or diverging during the first 15 years (1993-2008) of separate
existence of the two countries.
