Change in access to the Orion terminal server

For security reasons, we were forced to make changes to the access to the Orion terminal server.

Access to the server is now possible only from the MU network. Access from other networks (from home or abroad) will now only be possible when using MUNI VPN. The procedure of connecting to the terminal server remains the same as before.

We apologize to all users for any inconvenience.

AIR Academy at ECON MUNI: students learned how to measure air quality and how laboratories work

ECON MUNI hosted a two-day AIR Academy for primary and secondary school students in November. Under the guidance of chief organiser Zdeněk Šerý, they visited leading scientific facilities, assembled their own pollution measurement sensors and gained practical skills that can be used in everyday life. The programme was created as a university project, connecting experts with the younger generation.

Christmas kindness Day at ECON MUNI supported Nojmánek Home and introduced Czech Christmas traditions

Before the Christmas break, ECON MUNI students and staff came together to celebrate kindness, community, and giving at the traditional pre-Christmas charity buffet. Every purchased refreshment helped support the Nojmánek Home for People with Disabilities, while enjoying Czech Christmas traditions and festive atmosphere.

Three factors determine more accurate volatility predictions: model combinations, market liquidity, and asymmetry, as proved by Daniel Stašek

In September, Daniel Stašek, a graduate of the doctoral program at ECON MUNI, received the Dean's Award for outstanding dissertation work. In his research focused on volatility prediction, he demonstrated that more reliable results can be achieved through a sophisticated combination of hundreds of models. It is also advisable to include market liquidity indicators in predictive models and to consider that underestimating volatility is more costly than overestimating it. The result is more realistic and economically accurate predictions.

Cybersecurity is also about people. Not just about technology, says Sylva Talpová

ECON MUNI has therefore joined a unique project called Czech Cybersecurity Seminars. Supported by Google.org, the project aims to strengthen digital security in everyday life. A whole network of student ambassadors is emerging to deliver practical knowledge in a comprehensible way to communities, non-profit organizations, schools as well as other organizations that often lack the resources, knowledge or time for such activities.
