Popis The aim of this paper is to describe the implementation process of the European transport policy in the railway sector. It is primarily focused on the impact of the European railway packages, their content and politics behind the negotiation. The paper analyses the process of implementation of the European legislation of the railway packages, the way how the implementation was carried out and what are the real results in the railway transport environment. Further the omissions and mistakes are analyzed and in this context the decision of the Court of Justice of the European Union are analyzed. Paper also focuses on the possible impact of the proposal of the 4th railway package on the railway transport. In the paper the opinions and attitudes to the proposal of 4th railway packages of involved institutions such as railway operators, infrastructure managers are presented. Than the projects and plans for high velocity railways are analyzed. The paper analyzes the possible impacts of high speed railways in both local and European context. We examine the feasibility of the current plans and the possible drawbacks of high speed railway construction.
