CORRECTION OF A SUCCESSFULLY PASSED EXAMINATION

Students at Masaryk University are entitled to refuse a passing grade for a course once per semester, with the aim of attempting to achieve a better result. This option is regulated by the Study and Examination Regulations (Article 21) and comes with specific conditions and limitations. The refused grade is permanently removed and replaced with a new grade, even if it is worse or a failing grade.

Key Conditions and Rules:

  • Each student may refuse a passing grade (B to E) once per semester (= only in one course).

  • The refusal does not apply to Final State Examinations.

  • The refused grade is removed from the MU Information System as of the date the student registers for a new examination date. Students have to register for one of the currently listed examination dates in the course.  If there is none, they cannot register (a new date may be published by the teacher if they agree).

  • Once the student registers for a new examination date, the application cannot be withdrawn or cancelled.

  • The new grade, regardless of whether it is better, worse, or failing, replaces the refused one!

  • If the student does not attend the new examination date, the grade is recorded as “” in IS MU, indicating absence (they can excuse their absence within 5 working days in accordance with the faculty rules: How to excuse your absence | Faculty of Economics and Administration, MU.

This option should be considered carefully, as the outcome of the repeated examination is binding, even if the result is less favorable than the original.

How to apply
  1. Go to this IS section: Request to correct a passing grade.
  2. Request a correction in the course you need.
  3. Register for the examination date in the course: Examination Dates. Beware that once you do so, you will not be able to cancel your request.
  4. Sit the examination. The new grade you get counts (even if it is worse).
