Description In accordance with the growing support of the development of the knowledge economy the number of students, especially university graduates, is increasing, mainly in the humanities, and this fact also affects their employability. This group of applicants is therefore, but not only because of this reason, considered as risk, regardless of regional differences and the current situation on the labour market. Long-term unemployment of these people is also dangerous in the fact that there is no time to develop their work habits and it has not only economic but also social impact. The aim of this paper is to analyze the unemployment of university graduates, on the example of a small open economy of the Czech Republic, in terms of their qualification structure and also to find out what affects this unemployment and whether there is any relationship between the evolution of unemployment of university graduates, the overall unemployment and economic development. Proposals and recommendations for possible solutions to the current state and future development of this issue are formulated based on the findings.
