Description The article is devoted to motivation of young generation with apprentice, secondary school or university education which would lead to self-employment in the means of setting up a new business – start-up. Today in the European Union there is more than five milion uneployed young people younger than 25 years regardless of education, i.e. every fifth young man or woman is not able to find a job. In the Czech Republic the unemployment rate fluctuates around 7%, but the unemployment rate of people younger that 25 years reaches from 17.6 to 19.6%. The goal of the study is to find an answer to a question why current young and educated generation does not want to take the responsibility for their future and be self-employed – create a start-up. Methodologically, we focused on the results of a secondary data analysis of renowned institutions in the extent of European and Czech environment. We also conducted a research of state or municipal bodies in the Czech Republic and their support of self-employment in the Central European Region. We also used results of our own research conducted among students of high schools in the South Moravian Region and among students of Masaryk University in Brno, where 5000 students were addressed, and the response rate was 14.5%. The results of the research will be published in professional journals and texts and sources for municipal and governmental bodies, so that they will be able to choose the right implementation of support and rules, which would lead to increase of self-employment as a start-up.
