Scholarship programmes for Ph.D. students

In accordance with Article 3 (1) b) MU Scholarship and Bursary Regulations FEA MU announces following scholarship programmes:

Support of excellent full time PhD students in English and German doctoral programmes

The Faculty of Economics and Administration of MU supports extra talented students admitted to the full-time doctoral degree study programmes carried out in a foreign language. The aim of this support is to create financially favourable conditions for their stay in the Czech Republic and studying in these study programmes.

There are two options of the support: waiver of study fee and waiver of study fee + scholarship award. More details can be found below.

Waiver of study fees in doctoral degree programmes carried out in a foreign language

Introductory Provisions

The tuition fees amount for doctoral study programmes in a foreign language is set by the Measure of the Faculty of Economics and Administration for the relevant academic year. The waiver concerns the fee stipulated in the agreement concluded between the student and the FEA.

Conditions for Waiving the Fee

  • The fee may be waived for students who:

1. study in the 1st to 8th term of the DSP study at the Faculty of Economics and Administration in full-time study in a foreign language,

2. fulfil the study obligations arising under Article 30 of the Study and Examination Regulations of MU,

3. first filed an application for waiving the fee in the first term (students enrolled in the autumn term of the calendar year) or in the second term (students enrolled in the spring term of the calendar year), and

4. according to the Selection Commission, have fulfilled the criteria for waiving the fee set-out in paragraphs 3 or 4.

  • The fee is waived for two terms for students meeting the above conditions. After that, students have the opportunity to re-apply to waiver the fee again. Students applying to waiver the fee in the 2nd term and enrolled in the spring term of the given calendar year may also be remitted in retrospect if they fulfilled the conditions for the waiver in the given period.
  • Eligibility criteria for students applying for the first time in the 1st or 2nd term of their studies:
    1. excellent dissertation project processing,
    2. excellent recommendations from previous studies or work places,
    3. excellent admission procedure results,
  • Eligibility criteria for students studying in the 3rd and higher terms who repeatedly apply:
    1. high quality publishing activities in the course of doctoral studies so far,
    2. obtaining or participating in prestigious scientific research grants,
    3. degree of dissertation completion.
  • In a given calendar year, a maximum of six newly admitted students from all DSPs may have their fee waived. Students who have previously been remitted under this measure may be remitted for a further period.

Application to Waive the Fee

  • The application to waive the fee shall be submitted by the student on the forms ( 1st year and 2nd and higher year), whereby all required information must be filled in.
  • To the application submitted in the 1st term (students enrolled in the autumn term of the given calendar year) or in the 2nd term (students enrolled in the spring term of the given calendar year) it is necessary to enclose the following:
    1. dissertation project,
    2. recommendations from a previous study or work place.
  • For a repeated application in the 3rd and higher terms, the application must be accompanied by:
    1. overview of publishing activities;
    2. overview of grants and projects whereby the student is the principal investigator or a research team member,
    3. dissertation’s current version.
  • The fee waiver is decided by the Vice-Dean for Science, Research and Doctoral Studies of FEA MU on the basis of the Selection Commission’s opinion.
  • The Office for Science, Research and Doctoral Studies of FEA MU (doctoral study co-ordinator) accepts students' applications from 1 September to 30 September of the given calendar year and, in case of incomplete documents, asks for their completion.

Scholarship programme for the support of talented full-time students studying in doctoral degree programmes carried out in a foreign language

Purpose of the Scholarship Programme

The purpose of the scholarship programme is the support to extra talented students admitted to the full-time doctoral degree study programmes carried out in a foreign language, and creating financially favourable conditions for their stay in the Czech Republic and studying in these study programmes.

Conditions for Awarding the Scholarship

  • The scholarship is awarded as a repeated monthly amount to students who:
    1. study in the 1st to 8th term of the DSP study at the Faculty of Economics and Administration in full-time study in a foreign language,
    2. fulfil the study obligations arising under Article 30 of the Study and Examination Regulations of MU,
    3. first filed an application for awarding the scholarship in the first term (students enrolled in the autumn term of the calendar year) or in the second term (students enrolled in the spring term of the calendar year), and
    4. according to the Selection Commission, have fulfilled the criteria for awarding the scholarship set-out in paragraphs below.
  • The scholarship is awarded for two terms to students meeting the above conditions. After that, students have the opportunity to re-apply to be awarded again. Students applying for awarding the scholarship in the 2nd term and enrolled in the spring term of the given calendar year may also be awarded the scholarship in retrospect if they fulfilled the conditions for its awarding in the given period.
  • Eligibility criteria for awarding the scholarship for students applying for the first time in the 1st or 2nd term of their studies:
    1. excellent dissertation project processing,
    2. excellent recommendations from previous studies or work places,
    3. excellent admission procedure results,
  • Eligibility criteria for awarding the scholarship for students studying in the 3rd and higher terms who repeatedly apply:
    1. high quality publishing activities in the course of doctoral studies so far,
    2. obtaining or participating in prestigious scientific research grants,
    3. degree of dissertation completion.
  • In a given calendar year, no more than one newly admitted student from all DSPs may be supported. At the same time, application filed by students supported in previous calendar years are assessed whether or not the scholarship will be awarded to them for the period of another two terms.

Application for scholarship

  • The application for awarding the scholarship shall be submitted by the student on the forms (1st year and 2nd and higher year), whereby all required information must be filled in.
  • To the application submitted in the 1st term (students enrolled in the autumn term of the given calendar year) or in the 2nd term (students enrolled in the spring term of the given calendar year) it is necessary to enclose the following:
    1. dissertation project,
    2. recommendations from a previous study or work place.
  • For a repeated application in the 3rd and higher terms, the application must be accompanied by:
    1. overview of publishing activities;
    2. overview of grants and projects whereby the student is the principal investigator or a research team member,
    3. dissertation’s current version.
  • The applications of students are accepted by the Office for Science, Research and Doctoral Studies of FEA MU (a doctoral study co-ordinator) from 1 September to 30 September of the given calendar year, and in case of incomplete documents, she will ask for their completion.
  • The doctoral study co-ordinator will only pass the Commission complete applications will all underlying documents for assessment.

The scholarship grant is decided by the Vice-Dean for Science, Research and Doctoral Studies of FEA MU on the basis of the Selection Commission’s opinion.

Amount of Scholarship

The amount of scholarship is CZK 12,000 and it is paid out as a repeated monthly amount for the term of its award. The students applying for the award of scholarship in the 1st term and at the same time enrolled in the spring term of the given calendar year may also be awarded the scholarship in retrospect as a lump sum corresponding to the sum of monthly sums for the period of their previous study at DSP.

Scholarship Withdrawal

In accordance with the Masaryk University scholarship and bursary regulations, the scholarship may be withdrawn if the student no more meets the conditions for the award of the scholarship.

Measure No. 12/2019 of the Faculty of Economics and Administration MU

Scholarship programme for evaluating publication results of PhD students

Purpose of the scholarship programme:

The purpose of the scholarship is to appreciate and support students who achieve high-quality publishing results and thus contribute to increasing the scientific research performance and the prestige of the Faculty of Economics and Administration.

Duration of the scholarship programme:

The scholarship program is announced from June 28, 2018 until the appeal.

Funding source:

The source of funding is the scholarship fund of the Faculty. The scholarship award is decided by the Vice-Dean for Science, Research and Doctoral Studies.

Conditions for awarding scholarships:

The scholarship is awarded to students in the standard period of study of in doctoral study programmes at the Faculty of Economics and Administration of Masaryk University for publications published or sent to the press in the decisive period of the calendar year or in the previous year and which are devoted to the Faculty of Economics of MU. The scholarship may be awarded for authorship or co-authoring of the following categories of publications:

  • an article in a peer-reviewed journal that is contained in the WoS database with the "Article", "Review" or "Letter" category;
  • an article in a peer-reviewed periodical, which is contained in the SCOPUS database with the "Article", "Review" or "Letter" category;
  • article in a properly reviewed professional periodical that does not fall into any of the above categories;
  • a book that meets the B-type definition of a range of at least 50 printed pages of its own text, without photographic, image, map, etc. attachments;
  • chapter in a professional book that meets the definition of a B-type result with a minimum range of 15 standard pages.

Application for scholarship:

The scholarship application is submitted by the author or the first author of the publication. The proposal is made on the relevant application form, which must contain all mandatory particulars.

The application must be enclosed with:

  • evidence of the publication in IS MU (certifying that the publication has been marked for submission to the RIV);
  • a copy of the published text of the publication, including a reference to the source in which it was published (DOI or URL, or magazine / book link).

Scholarship amount:

The scholarship is one-off and is awarded depending on the applicant's contribution. All the details of the programme are listed in Dean's Provision No. 3/2018.

Scholarship programme to support the participation of PhD students at domestic conferences and summer schools

Purpose of the scholarship programme:

The purpose of the scholarship programme is to support the active participation of PhD students at domestic scientific conferences and summer schools,

  • of domestic conferences of an international character and importance
  • of domestic conferences with a tradition and meaning in the given field
  • summer schools of relevant professional orientation, organized by renowned workplaces or associations.

The scholarship program does not apply to conferences organized by the FEA MU.

Duration of the scholarship program:

The scholarship program is announced from April 3, 2013 until the appeal.

Funding source:

The source of funding is the scholarship fund of the faculty.

Conditions for awarding scholarships:

The scholarship is designed for students of both full-time and part-time forms of PhD studies, in 1st, 2nd and 3rd semester of their studies.

The application form is submitted by the student on the relevant form. The application must include a cost calculation and must be accompanied by a statement from the supervisor. In the case of an application for participation in the summer school, it is necessary for the supervisor to specify the contribution and significance of the summer school for the applicant's study.

The application is submitted before the conference or the summer school, within a deadline so that it can be assesed by the vice-dean before the conference / summer school. The scholarship is paid after the conference / summer school on the basis of a written report. The payment of the scholarship is conditional upon submission of the report within 10 days after the end of the conference / summer school at OSRD (the form of the final report can be found here).

Scholarship amount:

The scholarship is granted as a contribution to the participation fee, travel and accommodation costs. The amount is based on the following rules:

  • the fee for the payment of the subscription fee is based on the participant fee
  • transport allowance to the venue of the conference and back corresponds to the price of the train ticket II. class or bus (back and forth)
  • the accommodation allowance corresponds to the actual cost of the accommodation but can be provided up to a maximum of CZK 1200 per night.

Scholarship programme to support international mobility of PhD students

Purpose of the scholarship programme:

The purpose of the scholarship programme is to support the active participation of PhD students at international conferences, summer schools, workshops, etc. The aim is to support in particular:

  • active participation in scientific conferences abroad
  • long-term or short-term internships at a partner institution abroad.

Duration of the scholarship programme:

The scholarship programme is announced for each academic year until the appeal.

Conditions for awarding scholarships:

The scholarship is intended for students of doctoral study programmess in full-time and part-time form of study, in 1st, 2nd and 3rd semester of their studies. 

Funding source:

The source of funding is the scholarship fund of the faculty.

Application for scholarship:

The application for a scholarship is submitted by the applicant = student on the prescribed form. Collection of applications is managed by the Office for Science, Research and Doctoral Studies, collection is ongoing.

A compulsory part of the application is the written agreement of the supervisor, in which the supervisor specifies in particular the specific benefits of the given mobility for the applicant and his / her studies.

The scholarship award is decided by the Vice-Dean for Science, Research and Doctoral Studies.

After return it is necessary to deliver a final report.

Scholarship amount:

The scholarship is paid as a fixed sum, which serves as a contribution to the travel and accommodation costs, incl. possible conference fees. The total amount of the scholarship for the applicant is determined by the sum of the partial amounts, the amount of which depends on the following factors:

  • country of destination - the amount depends on which of the three categories of countries the student is leaving (categorization of countries I-III see Appendix 2);
  • the amount of the conference/summer school/etc. fee - the amount depends on the real amount of the action fee;
  • the expected length of stay abroad - the amount depends on the length of the stay and the country of destination and is paid either as a lump sum per month or a daily allowance (see Appendix 3 - categorization of countries A - C).

In justified and well-desirable cases, the Vice-dean accept application over the fixed amounts. 
The student is required to submit a completed final report within 12 days of his / her return.

Scholarship programme to support international foreign internships of PhD students

Purpose of the scholarship programme:

The purpose of the scholarship programme is to support the participation of students of doctoral study programmes of the faculty in the short or long-term international internships at the universities / research institutes / other institutions engaged in research activities abroad, with the exception of Slovakia.

Duration of the scholarship program:

The scholarship program is announced as of June 20, 2017, and it is announced for each academic year to appeal, respectively if the program is not canceled, the duration of the program is extended for another academic year.

Funding source:

The source of funding is the scholarship fund of the faculty.

Conditions for awarding scholarships:

The scholarship is designed for students of both full-time and part-time forms of PhD Studies.

An application form for a scholarship with a specified internship plan containing a plan of activities and planned outcomes is submitted by the student on the relevant form.

  • The application must include a calculation of costs and must be accompanied by a statement from the supervisor, in which he / she specifies his / her opinion on the plan and on the traineeship itself, the specific benefits of the student's placement and study.
  • The application shall be accompanied by an opinion of the head of doctoral study board.
  • The part of the application is also an expression of the chosen trainee provider on the provision of professional guidance in the implementation of a traineeship and a contract concluded between the faculty, the student and the trainee provider, if the trainee enters the written agreement (form here).

The application is submitted within two months from the date of the study visit.

After completing the internship, the student is required to submit the following documents confirming his / her participation:

1. Certificate of completion of the traineeship and the student's assessment by the person guaranteeing the course and quality of the traineeship on the part of the trainee provider within 14 days after returning from the placement (see the form here).

2. Final report on the traineeship with an evaluation of the plan of activities and planned outcomes signed by the supervisor within 14 days after returning from the placement (the form can be found here).

Scholarship amount:

The scholarship is paid as a fixed sum, which serves as a contribution to the payment of travel expenses, the cost of transporting by public transport, and the accommodation costs associated with the student's internship. The claim amount of the scholarship for the applicant is determined by the sum of the partial amounts according to letter. (a) and (b) as follows:

1. a one-off flat rate amount dependent on the category of destination country of the traineeship and is intended to cover the travel costs of the workplace of the trainee and re-
2. the fixed sum of the scholarship depends on the duration of the stay and the category of the destination country of the traineeship is calculated as a lump sum per month and is intended to cover reasonable subsistence costs.

Scholarship programme for the support of full-time students studying in doctoral degree programmes

Purpose of the Scholarship Programme

The purpose of the scholarship programme is the support of motivation of full-time students studying in doctoral degree programmes at FEA MU to achieve excellent study, scientific and research results.

Conditions for Awarding the Scholarship and its Amount

  • The extraordinary scholarship for the support of motivation shall be awarded to students on one-time basis for passing the state doctoral examination (hereinafter referred to as “DSE”), for passing the dissertation defense under the conditions specified below.
  • The extraordinary scholarship for the support of motivation for passing the state doctoral examination can be awarded to a student:
  1. in the amount of CZK 12,500 provided that he/she has passed the DSE by the end of the 4th term with grade A according to the Study and Examination Regulations of MU (hereinafter referred to as “SER MU”) and another CZK 12,500 if he/she also successfully defends the dissertation thesis by the end of the 8th term with grades A, B, or C,
  2. in the amount of CZK 7,500 provided that he/she has passed the DSE by the end of the 4th term with the grade B according to the SER MU and another CZK 7,500, if he/she also successfully defends the dissertation thesis by the end of the 8th term with grades A, B or C.
  • The extraordinary scholarship for the support of motivation for successfully completed dissertation defense can be awarded to a student in the amount of CZK 20,000, provided that he/she has also successfully defended the dissertation by the end of the 8th term with grades A, B or C according to the SER MU.
  • The extraordinary scholarship for the support of motivation can be awarded to students upon the student’s application, after a positive statement of the Vice-Dean for Science, Researchand Doctoral Studies, after meeting the conditions specified above.

Application for Awarding the Scholarship

  • An application for awarding the extraordinary scholarship to support motivation shall be submitted by the student, on the relevant application form, which must include all mandatory particulars.
  • Collection of applications is administered by the Office for Science, Research and Doctoral Studies FEA MU.
  • The deadline for collection of applications in the relevant term is within 7 calendar days after the end of the examination period.
  • The award of the supplementary payment is decided by the Dean based on the proposal of the Vice-Dean for Science, Research and Doctoral Studies FEA MU.
