At the beginning of the semester, the area in front of ECON MUNI was covered with a temporary installation designed to attract the attention of passers-by and encourage them to think about the future of this shared space.
It has not been possible to restore the water level in the fountain for some time. The technical solution to the problem is so complex that it is necessary to consider other options for revitalizing the space and restoring not only its aesthetic but also its functional value.
The faculty management decided to invite everyone who spends time at the faculty to contribute their ideas, which is why the installation included a QR code encouraging people to share their ideas on how they would like to use the space.
Over 60 respondents responded to the call, and their ideas could be sorted into the following categories: almost a third of respondents wanted a space in front of the faculty that would be greener than the current one – it would contain flowers, plants, and trees.
A large group of respondents voted for the inclusion of a social space for sitting and relaxing. There were also repeated requests for art (whether in the form of sculptures or other artistic installations) to remain part of the new design.
There were also humorous suggestions for sculptures of the most popular teachers, depictions of economic symbols (the invisible hand of the market), or the installation of another version of the Brno astronomical clock.
We have incorporated the suggestions into the open assignment, which will be further developed by experts – architects.
