We have launched a new doctoral programme

In December, ECON MUNI opened the admission process for a new doctoral study programme in Economics, Finance and Management (EFIMA). The programme covers a wide range of topics, including empirical economics, behavioural and experimental economics, macroeconomics, finance, business management, regional and transport economics, public economics and administration, and environmental economics. The programme guarantor is Professor Štefan Lyócsa.

We hosted a prestigious international conference

In 2025, the Faculty of Economics and Administration hosted the prestigious Economic Science Association (ESA) conference, one of the most important events in the field of experimental and behavioural economics. It attracted many experts from around the world to Brno and offered discussions on current topics such as the learning process or the causes of ethnic intolerance.

Impactful research: connecting science and practice

The year 2025 brought the launch of new research projects and the successful completion of existing ones at ECON MUNI. We launched the AGEING-CZ project, which focuses on the challenges associated with an ageing population and their impact on health and social systems, as well as the INTERFER project, which analyses interference by foreign powers in the context of the changing geopolitical and technological situation. At the same time, the SYRI project was completed and will be followed by Research on peripheries to strengthen the resilience of Czech society.

Three new policy reports have been produced, addressing selected topics in contemporary Czech society. The first deals with people's willingness to contribute to measures related to climate-responsible behaviour. The second report highlights the economic losses associated with incapacity for work, which amount to hundreds of billions of crowns a year in Czechia. The third report focuses on the record low birth rate in the Czech Republic, analyses its causes and describes possible measures that could help stabilise the situation.

The faculty also joined the Czech Cybersecurity Seminars project supported by Google, which aims to increase cybersecurity in everyday life.

Projects that cross borders

In 2025, ECON MUNI became involved in projects with an international dimension. The faculty is leading an initiative to bring a micro-certificate system to two Asian countries. This will also include mapping the current state of micro-certified courses and sharing good practices within the European Union. The project supports the development of modern, accessible education and strengthens global cooperation.

We are successful – in research, publishing and grants

In 2025, ECON MUNI achieved success in grant competitions and individual awards. The Czech Science Foundation supported two new projects from our faculty. The first supported project, "Attention driven market risk", is led by Štefan Lyócsa. The second project, "Curbing conspicuous mindset", is led by Magdalena Adamus.

The Vice-Rector for Science and Research highlighted 36 excellent doctoral students at MU, including Matúš Horváth and his supervisor Tomáš Výrost from ECON MUNI. His work in the field of risk measurement and cryptocurrency portfolio optimisation offered a new framework for more effective investment management in conditions of high volatility.

The MUNI Scientist Award 2025 was presented to Dr Magdalena Adamus from the Department of Business Economics and Management. She received the award for her publications in the prestigious international journals Political Psychology, Thinking and Reasoning, and Applied Psychology – Health and Well-Being.

The quality of publications is growing

Since 2020, the faculty has continuously increased both the number of articles published in journals indexed in the Web of Science database and their representation in the Q1 and Q2 quartiles according to the AIS (Article Influence Score) metric. While 40 articles were published in 2020, only a quarter of which fell into the top half of the ranking, in 2025 the faculty recorded 107 articles, three quarters of which are classified as Q1 or Q2.

In 2025, authors most frequently published in the subject categories Economics and business (42 articles), Psychology and cognitive sciences (10 articles) and Political science (8 articles). Thanks to the HEPII research institute, Health sciences (7 articles) also made a significant impact. The most cited article published in 2025 is the study Work-family conflict, subjective well-being, burnout, and their effects on presenteeism, co-authored by Kayode Kolawole Eluwole.

New premises for a modern faculty

In 2025, we built two new modern spaces: a Hybrid meeting room and a PhD meeting room. The spaces are equipped with technology for effective and remote collaboration. The Hybrid meeting room was created thanks to the INVEST4MUNI project (CZ.02.02.01/00/23_023/0009100), while the PhD meeting room was implemented thanks to the MUNI4PhD project (CZ.02.01.01/00/22_012/0008113), both funded by the Jan Amos Komenský Operational Programme.
