The quality of its teaching and research is reflected in its growing international reputation. In the field of economics and econometrics, ECON MUNI has ranked among the world’s best faculties according to the QS World University Rankings. As part of Masaryk University, it has long been listed among the top-rated universities in Europe (TOP 200) and belongs to the select group of Czech institutions represented in elite global rankings. These achievements confirm the faculty’s competitiveness in the international academic environment.
Over the course of its existence, the faculty has sent more than 17,000 successful graduates into the world. The consistently high satisfaction rate among alumni—currently reaching 96%—demonstrates that ECON MUNI is able to prepare its students effectively for the professional and personal challenges of today’s world.
People—both academic and non-academic staff—form the core of every success. The team of roughly 140 academics comprises experts from the Czech Republic and abroad who contribute to teaching, research, and public debate. A major milestone in the faculty’s development is its systematic internationalization. ECON MUNI students come from 95 countries, and since 2009 more than 1,100 study abroad mobilities have taken place through the Erasmus+ programme at over 100 partner universities. In addition to academic growth, the faculty has undergone a significant physical transformation. From its initial temporary premises at Zelný trh, it moved to a modern building on Vinařská Street, whose layout symbolically resembles an open book—a sign of education, knowledge, and continuity. Its values have evolved as well: from the legacy of Karel Engliš to today’s emphasis on responsibility, open mind, and professionalism.

Researchers from ECON MUNI have joined a new research project focusing on geographical peripheries in the Czech Republic. They are building on the collaboration established within the SYRI National Institute and investigating why some regions lag behind in the long term, whilst others manage to prosper despite structural disadvantages. The aim is to better understand the mechanisms of marginalisation and to offer recommendations for public policies that can help reduce regional inequalities and strengthen social cohesion.
