🔍 What is this?

A mandatory process to confirm that your high school diploma (or equivalent) is valid in the Czech Republic. This is separate from admission and required by law.

❓“Do I really need to submit my diploma again?”

Yes. Even if you uploaded your diploma during the application process, the documents must be submitted again for verification. This step is handled separately, and we need the documents collected in one place.

As soon as possible. You cannot be enrolled without completed verification, and this step is especially important for visa applicants.

⏳How long does it take? 

If you submitted your application at the embassy more than 60 days ago, and the status of your application has not changed (https://frs.gov.cz/en/status-of-your-application/), you may apply for execution of measures against inactivity: https://frs.gov.cz/en/administrative-proceedings/protection-from-inaction/. This application can be sent (following the instructions on the website) to the Commission for Decision-making in Matters of Residence of Foreigners at os@mvcr.cz.

🩺 Health insurance (visa requirement)

Health insurance is a mandatory requirement for completing the Czech visa process. While it is not required to submit your visa application, you must have valid comprehensive health insurance for foreigners before your visa can be issued and collected.

You are responsible for meeting all official Czech visa and residence conditions. 👉 Always check the official rules on the Ministry of the Interior website: Travel Medical Insurance, or follow the instructions given to you by the embassy.

💡 Do your research: Compare not only prices, but especially coverage and how convenient each provider is in terms of doctor networks and services in Brno. Each company has slightly different terms and conditions.

To confirm your reservation, you must

• signt the contract, and
• pay the reservation deposit within 5 days of booking

• Activate your SUPO account immediately after booking

Can I book earlier than the date above?
No. The system opens at the same time for everyone. Early reservations are not possible. 

Can I reserve a single room?
Single rooms are limited and assigned on a first-come, first-served basis.
You can indicate your preference during booking if available.

If you can’t get a dorm place or prefer private housing, start looking early. For September intake especially, the housing market is competitive.

⚠️ Avoid rental scams

Be cautious if:

• you’re asked to pay a deposit before seeing the flat or signing a contract
• the landlord refuses to meet (even online)
• there's no clear address or contact information
• the price seems unrealistically low

If something feels off, it probably is.

* Important: Most accommodation advertisements on Facebook are posted in Czech, so you may need assisstance from your buddy or another Czech-speaking student. However, many landlords and students will also respond to messages in English.

When searching for accommodation through Facebook or other online platforms, please be cautious and watch for potential warning signs that may indicate a fraudulent listing or profile. For example:

• The profile has very few photos, and they appear to be generic or copied from elsewhere online.
• The profile was created very recently and shows little activity.
• The account has very limited information, posts, or interactions with other users.
• The person is unwilling to provide additional information, photos, or proof that they are associated with the accommodation being offered.
• You are asked to send money immediately or before receiving sufficient information about the accommodation.
• The offer appears unusually attractive compared to similar accommodation options.

🚩 Example of a suspicious accommodation offer

An incoming student recently reported a rental offer that appeared legitimate at first glance. The apartment existed, photos and a video of the property were provided, and a rental contract had been signed. However, before making any payment, the student noticed several concerns:

• The payment was to be sent to a third party's bank account in another country, rather than directly to the landlord. Be especially cautious if you are asked to send money to a third party (e.g. a lawyer, agent, friend, or family member) or to a bank account in a different country from where the accommodation is located.
• The advertisement repeatedly disappeared and reappeared on social media.
• The student compared the video provided by the advertiser with publicly available street-level imagery and noticed several inconsistencies, including differences in the windows and building entrance. Although these differences may have had innocent explanations, they prompted the student to seek additional verification before transferring any money.
• The apartment could not be viewed live online and only a video was provided.

We cannot determine whether the offer was genuine or fraudulent. However, the student decided not to transfer any money until additional verification could be completed. This example shows that even when a property appears to exist and supporting documents are provided, it is important to carefully review all details and investigate anything that appears unusual before making a payment. If you encounter several warning signs at the same time, we strongly recommend seeking advice before transferring any money.

When looking for housing, please remember that not every property offered for rent can be used as proof of accommodation for visa or residence permit applications. Some providers rent premises that are not officially classified as residential buildings, and accommodation documents issued for such properties may not be accepted by the Czech authorities.

Before signing a contract, make sure that the property is officially registered as a residential object in the Czech Land Register. According to Act No. 326/1999 Coll., Section 31, Subsection 5, accommodation must be provided in a building that:

• has an official descriptive, registration, or orientation number
• is designated under the Building Act for living, accommodation, or recreation

💡 Practical tips:

• Never send money before signing a verified contract
• Always clarify whether utilities and internet are included in the rent
• Join MUNI and Erasmus Facebook groups — students often post available rooms and flats when they are moving out
• Take time to read your rental agreement carefully and make sure you understand all conditions before signing

✈️ When should I arrive?

We strongly recommend arriving in Brno shortly before Orientation Week, ideally a few days in advance. This gives you time to:

• recover from travel
• move into your accommodation 

• settle in before Orientation Week begins

Orientation Week is the official start of your student journey and the best way to get essential information, meet people, and feel confident going into the semester.

🕰️ Arriving earlier than Orientation Week

You may arrive earlier, but please note:

• official enrolment is only possible during Orientation Week
• before enrolment, you do not yet have student status → no student Wi-Fi, no student discounts (e.g. public transport)

Please don’t request early enrolment. The team is fully focused on preparing Orientation Week.

⚠️ What if I arrive late?

If you cannot arrive for Orientation Week:

• arrive as soon as possible afterwards
• inform us in advance of your expected arrival date

The latest possible enrolment date is shown in the timeline on the right-hand side of this page. Arrival after this date means enrolment is not possible. Online enrolment or online study is not available.

❗If you already know that you cannot arrive in time, contact us immediately to discuss deferring your studies.

🎒 What to expect during Orientation Week?

You’ll get to:

• meet your classmates
• learn how the university and study system work
• receive practical info about studies, accommodation, health insurance, and student life

• take part in social events and city tours

You’ll be officially enrolled in your degree programme on the first day of Orientation Week, after you arrive in Brno.

• Physical presence is required
• Online or early enrolment is not possible

Just arrived in Brno and want to avoid any “oops, I didn’t know” fines?

Czech daily life is pretty straightforward, but there are a few local habits and rules that might catch you off guard if you're new:

🗣️ People can seem reserved at first — don’t worry, that’s normal and not unfriendliness.

🚭 No Smoking in Public Spaces
Smoking (including e-cigarettes and heated tobacco products) is not allowed in:

• Public transport stops and platforms (even outdoors)
• Restaurants, cafés, bars, and enclosed public spaces
• University buildings and student dorms

♻️ Recycling is common! Use the color-coded bins for paper, plastic, glass, and more.

👟 Take your shoes off indoors — even in some student flats. It's a cultural thing!

🍽️ Eating Out

• Tipping at restaurants = 10% is polite, not mandatory

• Student cafeterias (Menza) offer very affordable meals.

💊 Pharmacy ≠ drugstore

• In Czechia, a pharmacy (lékárna) sells medicines.
• Things like shampoo, toothpaste, or snacks are usually found in a drugstore (drogerie).

🗺️ Getting around is easy
Use Google Maps to navigate — it works very well in Brno and includes public transport routes, stops, and real-time connections.
