The department of Business Economics was founded in 1999 by joining the Departments of Management and Business. It equips students with specialist knowledge in the area of corporate economics, management, marketing and human resources. The special emphasis is on the knowledge being interconnected to enable students to see various activities performed by a company as a whole.
The department cooperates closely with similar departments both in the Czech Republic and abroad. These contacts are maintained through European community programs (ERASMUS) or bilateral agreements (University of Huddersfield, UK).
The research activities of our department focus especially on the area on business economics and management. The department collaborates closely with the Research Centre for the Competitiveness of the Czech Economy which participates in the research into competitiveness of Czech companies. Other issues studied include leadership effectiveness, social and psychological aspects of management, and reverse logistics.
The department was one of the founding departments of the Faculty of Economics and Administration. It equips students with specialist knowledge of monetary systems, financial markets and international finance. It trains students to hold highly specialized positions in financial institutions, corporate finance departments, audit companies, consultancies, etc.
The department closely cooperates with distinguished departments focusing on finance and accounting both in the Czech Republic and abroad (Austria, Germany, Spain, Poland). This cooperation is facilitated through mutual exchange of both academic staff, and undergraduate and postgraduate students.
The departmental research activities focus on finance, financial markets and institutions, accounting and taxes. Here the department collaborates with the Institute for Financial Market at the Faculty of Economics and Administration and The Centre for Economic and Law Studies where a research into financial literacy is undertaken. Other issues followed include research into accounting methods and valuation, tax systems effectiveness, new financial products or financial institutions effectiveness.
