Aims of the study and graduate profile

The objectives in doctoral studies in Public Economics are as follows:

  • build on postgraduates´ existing theoretical knowledge in the area of Public Economics in correlation with the economy-related knowledge;
  • extend postgraduates´ knowledge of scientific methodology applied particularly in Public economics;
  • develop the ability to adopt an interdisciplinary approach in dealing with public sector problems;
  • contribute to the development in the field of Public Economics utilising elaborate dissertations.

Graduate profile reflects a comprehensive range of general, expert and specific knowledge and skills gradually acquired over the period of the scientific postgraduate studies. Doctoral graduates in Public Economics will be able to pursue their career primarily in the following areas:

  • managerial activities at all levels of local administration and general and specific state administration (i.e. central and territorial authorities) creating conditions for administering or running public sector and being involved in managing the following:
    • revenue and expenditure of public budgets (financial institutions)
    • public administration, police, justice, defence
    • social policy (social security and social services)
    • labour market
    • educational, scientific, cultural, and sports activities and institutions
    • health policy and institutions
    • the environment
    • living and housing policy;
  • managerial activities of all types of non-profit organisations, including both top management positions and executive positions in finance department;
  • educational areas and scientific research in the field of Public economics, particularly in higher education or secondary schools such as vocational schools.
