Presenting the Centre for Economic and Law Studies of the MU

From this January, the Centre for Economic and Law Studies of the Masaryk University has started its activities (Project No. CZ.1.07/2.4.00/12¬.0055, Operational Programme Education for Competitiveness, Area of Support 2.4 Partnership and networking). It is an inter-faculty project which the Faculty of Economics and Administration of the MU (FEA) is implementing in co-operation with the Faculty of Law of the MU (FL).

The mission of the Centre is to establish a new interdisciplinary platform to support mutual co-operation between university workplaces (FEA and FL) and entities from the public and private sectors on the border between economy and law. The objective is to accentuate and to streamline the transfer of knowledge between the practice and both Faculties, by establishing a communication platform efficiently responding to the quickly changing conditions of the market, which are subsequently reflected by the requirements of organizations from the public and private sectors on university graduates and academic staff.

The target group, on the one hand, are doctoral students and academic staff, to whom the Centre will help broaden the range of knowledge applicable in their professional development, and on the other hand, graduate students, to whom the Centre will help ensure better availability of practical information on specialized topics, with which they meet during their studies of selected subjects and while writing their diploma theses.

The activities of the Centre for Economic and Law Studies of the Masaryk University (CEPS MU) will be implemented in many ways, e.g. by means of:

• a web portal,

• specialized modules focused on economic and legal topics, whose framework will include implementation of workshops and seminars, suitably complementing the already established educational activities of the Faculties and accentuating the current specialized topics,

• co-operation in awarding and resolving diploma theses and dissertations.

All the above mentioned activities anticipate participation of project partners from the public and private sectors, who will be able to offer a practical view of the area investigated in necessary complexity.

The modules, guaranteed by specialists from the FEA and the FL in co-operation with partner organizations, are thematically divided in the following areas:

• Finance and law

• Consumer protection

• Financial literacy

• Insolvency

• Intellectual property

• Public administration

• Project management

• International trade

An overall project deliverable thus will be a new inter-disciplinary workplace enabling the partners to efficiently communicate with academic staff and students, including a possibility to carry out necessary educational activities. By this project, the Faculty will acquire a unique possibility to develop co-operation with the practice and to strengthen professional ties with the Faculty of Law of the MU.

Director of CEPS MU
