The proxy-server of the Scientific Information Centre (SVI) enables the employees and students of the Faculty of Economics and Administration to temporarily access licensed Internet sources also from computers away from the Faculty building, i.e. usually from homes.
For example the following:
In general the above are the sources the access to which is linked to the IP address of the computer from the domain of the Faculty of Economics and Administration or MU domain. The SVI proxy-server fully substitutes the University proxy-server since it makes accessible both the sources purchased by the Faculty of Economics and Administration and/or purchased by MU.
Two steps are needed to use the SVI proxy-server: Register the IP-address of your computer, and instruct the web browser to use our proxy-server for the access to the Internet. Register on the SVI proxy-server registration site by entering your Faculty user name and password. Successful registration will cause the IP address of the computer from which the registration was made to be registered, and you can use the proxy-server from this IP address until following five a.m. Should you need to use the proxy-server also in the following days, you must re-register. After this, set in the browser setting the use of the script for the automatic configuration of the proxy-server which can be found on
http://proxy.svi.econ.muni.cz/sviproxy.pac.
This script will ensure that the proxy-server will be used only for the access to licensed information sources.
In Internet Explorer, please follow these steps: Tools – Internet possibilities, choose the tab Connection and click on the button Local network setting below. Tick the box Use script for automatic configuration in the open window, and write the script address http://proxy.svi.econ.muni.cz/sviproxy.pac in the textual box.
In other browsers the proxy-server is set analogically in the connection setting.
Every day at five a.m. registered IP addresses are transferred to an archive – this means that if you want to use the proxy-server again, you need to re-register your IP address. If the user tries to use the SVI proxy-server and does not have his/her IP address registered, he/she will get empty pages or error messages stating that the page cannot be displayed, or that the document contains no data.
Registration of the IP address where the user enters his/her user name and password is carried out on a secured channel using the HTTPS protocol. If you do not wish to receive messages stating that the browser could not prove the identification of the SVI proxy-server, install our certification authority key.
